Ohio Bill That Bans All Abortions

Recently Ohio passed a bill that would ban all abortions. Not only that, but the state of Ohio will go as far as pressing criminal charges against both abortion providers and the women that are seeking the procedure. One of the state representatives Ron Hood stated, “it would be up to prosecutors to decide whether to charge a woman or a doctor and what those charges would be. But they could be severe. Under the bill, an “unborn human” would be considered a person under state criminal homicide statutes.” This means that it is up to the prosecutor to decide whether or not to charge a woman with murder for ending her pregnancy; and in Ohio, being convicted of murder results in life in prison or even the death penalty.

In my personal opinion, I believe that Ohio’s call to action is absurd. Not only for the fact that I am pro-choice for many reasons, but simply the resulting punishment of this procedure is unconstitutional. Anti-abortion rallies have taken place for a period of time now with a goal similar to Ohio’s bill, but many citizens cannot seem to put their opinions aside to acknowledge a serious problem that will potentially take place if abortions were banned in all; that is that banning abortions will not stop women from getting them, which results in illegal and or dangerous circumstances to get the procedure done. It simply seems more rational for women to make their own choices with a safe form of health care rather than an unconstitutional action to take place.

  1. I completely stand by the opinion regarding the matter, but find it important to back an opinion with reason. It would have helped to have a link to the bill or the article about the bill so your readers could get more detail of the situation.

  2. Discussing the Ohio bill that bans all abortions by Jeta, her article is well developed and offers an educated opinion after informing the reader on the bill; the bill gives prosecutors the ability to determine if the unborn child in the case presented is a human life or not, and can charge the abortion providers as well as the woman seeking to end her pregnancy. Her main point that this is bill is unfair and should be removed is backed by reason and argument- I agree. In the end women will really find a way around making abortions illegal, and that leaves every women making that choice to find unreliable or unsafe methods to replace clinics. This problem will arise soon, and although some see it as their right to intervene in lives outside their own, it really isn't up to them. The pro choice movement is backed with reason and science, while the opposition is fueled by religion and their own opinions; a lot of people don't understand until they're thrusted into the situation of having an unwanted child, and for at least half the population that will never happen so it's easy for many to not understand. This huge problem for society has become oversimplified, overgeneralized, and now it's reached a point where each side is calling for action; a reasoned compromise encompassing the entire U.S is a necessity in order to move forward on future issues regarding if a life is a life before birth. However, both mine and the author of this article firmly believe in pro choice and the respect to the privacy guaranteed to other individuals.
